    Man-Eating Teddy Bear

    -

Weeks after viewing Episode VI of a certain cult classic with our 4.5-year-old son, we were discussing with him what he’d like Santa to bring him for Christmas. He proclaimed that he wanted a set of “man-eating teddy bears.” At first confused, we anxiously and patiently waited as he flipped through his Lego catalog to show us what he meant, and it turned out to be the kit that includes – you guessed it: Ewoks. “Man-Eating Teddy Bears” indeed…

    Mommy’s Makeup

    -

I was putting my makeup on in the mirror. My two year old daughter came up to me and said, “Mommy, I want to wear your makeup”. I told her that she is too little and only Mommies wear makeup. She replied, “Momma makeup is not big, it’s little”. She was trying to make a case for why she should be allowed to wear it :)

    Once upon a Joelle…

    -

Our 4-year old, Joelle, was telling her baby sister a story:
“Once upon a time, there were three little pigs. They met a lovely young girl, and her name was… ME!”

    Angry Birds

    -

My husband and I were going for a walk in our neighborhood when we heard some kids playing “angry birds” outside. One child would be the bird and the others the pigs. They were mimicking the popular mobile game Angry Birds but with twist on it that made it look more like a modern “cops and robbers”. It was the cutest nerdy thing we had ever seen!

    Free Minecraft

    -

My nephew Noah is five years old. He enjoys watching his older brother play video games, especially Minecraft. Noah asked his mother if he could play Minecraft and his mother said that it would cost money. Noah’s response was “Can’t we just Google free Minecraft?” I was blown away.

    Cut to the Quick

    -

We had agreed to get Dade some French fries on the way home from the beach, but he fell asleep. The next morning, I asked him what was his favorite part of beach day. He casually responded, “My favorite part was when you forgot to get me French fries.”

    On Kretos

    -

We are driving our way up the steep incline of High Cliff State Park for a hiking adventure. As we are climbing higher and higher, Dade (age 4) illustrates his early knowledge of Greek mythology, which already far exceeds my own. And is a little disturbing…

“Dad, do you know about Kretos?”
    “No, who’s Kretos?”
“Kretos cast himself from the highest mountain. Did you know that?”
“Uh.., no Dade, I did not.”
    “Do you know why, Dad?”
“Why, Dade? And who is Kretos?”
“He did it because he killed his muvver (mother).”

I’m not even sure how to categorize this.

    In the Name of God

    -

“Dade, would you lead us in prayer?”
    “OK. I’ll start. 1… 2… 3…”
“No, Dade, like this, ‘In the name of the Father, and of the..’”
“OK, but I get to pick. I pick… God.”
“God it is, then. In the name of God; bless us oh Lord and these Thy gifts…”

    5 Little Monkeys

    -

I told my daughter that we were going to go to the doctor’s office. She said, “Sophie’s going to doctors, see monkeys jumping on the bed!” Maybe she has been listening to the five little monkeys song a little too often!
